Alaska: Day Five

Skagway!
Entering Skagway port

I love love love this town. Oh so much! It was my favorite place we stopped at the whole trip! We not only saw a cool old western feel building. This was our only cruise expedition. To Klondike Summit. We did 8:30am so we could relax the rest of the day. We seriously made the right choice. It was only $40. So cheap and so worth it. I highly recommend it to everyone!

The bus only had 12 passengers on it, so it was nice and small. The bus was tiny with giant windows. Pete was our tour guide, he's been doing this for years and really enjoys it. He's probably the best tour guide I've ever met. He knew so much and told stories instead of just facts. All about the gold mining town and the people that were there. He even enthusiastically recited this poem which was really good and fun to hear. Very entertaining man with good jokes to share. He made stops along the road that basically follows the same path as the White Pass train and we actually get to get out of the bus and take pictures. On the train it cost $$$ a lot of money and is 3 hours and doesn't stop. Sounds pretty boring if you ask me. Ours was an hour and a half. Short and sweet. We had a gorgeous day. First day I took off my jacket. He even went farther then he has all cruise season because we could actually see the mountains that when it's cloudy you can't see anything. He said he was having more than he was having the weeks prior! We can see how clear the windows are with this picture below!, just gorgeous! Like for real!

Okay here are the pictures from the ride!
Talk about amazing!!! After the ride, Pete dropped us off right in town. Barely any cars drove through and the sun was shinning and their backdrop was these giant green mountains. The sky was so clear it was as if we were looking inside a national geographic professional photo! The kind of view you can't imagine it's really right there in front of you. The people were walking along the streets, all with smiles among their faces and laughing people just enjoying this quaint little town. We first headed to a bar that has their own beer they brew and the guys got this shots. They very much enjoyed them. And became a bit drunk, haha!
We then headed down the main street and saw this small building with a replica of a old timey 1880's bar, which had fake men drinking and old beer bottles and cigars. Along with some information about it. We also know this town was not only known for mining but it's brothels! So we posed like women of the red light district down one of the ally's which actually had a "House Of Negotiable Affection"... so if you're into that, lol. It was necessary, don't judge! We went to an antique store with tons of stuff from back then and then we got some local homemade ice cream. It was delicious! You for sure know that I got peanut butter cup! It's my favsies! Stopped into some little shops. I met a dog that was so adorable, just laying next to his owners store. Remember to ask before you pet someone's dog. It's just common sense! Thankfully he said go right ahead! Shadow really made me miss my pup even more! Though petting him would get me through the rest of the cruise. They had this cute mural you could pose infront of with a little donation box for the local business, so we did goofy poses. Tom's was hilarious getting attacked by the bead, I just fed it, haha. I'm boring clearly. There also was this
They had this cool historical building which is featured below (the bottom two) In the inside it had old photographs and a lot of information with old mining tools and displays. The building was the original from the 1880's when it was first built, over the years most of the building changed the front designs. Then down on of the alleys it lead to an original home and log cabin. The did a replica on the inside of the original homeowners using old photographs. They did a really good job, and the cabin was beautiful and thankfully a tour group was coming up and the guy was oh you can stay and take a peek inside, so wwe totally did that for free, haha!

When we were heading back, we noticed some people going down this other way through a little path instead of going along the street. I'm so glad we noticed because we went on a bridge and saw salmon! It was spawning season so all the fish are swimming up stream, fighting the current. Saddly there were many dead fish, and the some fish who were weak and bruised. But we did follow it and saw some ones that were almost at the end toward the pond area. Alaska is known for salmon so it neat to see it in action! Okay I hope this video works for you. I'm not that good at them, haha!

It was a great day and I will always remember Alaska and all the amazing views and experiences we had! If you ever get an opportunity to go, GO.
